Mallory’s Unilite Breakerless Conversion Kit is designed to convert the point’s ignition of the earlier Big Twin and Sportster to a full electronic system. The self containing Unilite module assembly has no moving parts to wear out. The module completely replaces the stock points and condenser. It consists of an integrated photo coupler, a signal processor and a power switch. Each time the shutter wheel stops the infrared light from reaching the photo coupler, the electronic circuitry energizes the ignition coil. When the shutter wheel allows the infra red light to reach the photo coupler, the electronic circuitry allows the stored energy in the ignition coil to discharge. The Mallory Unilite Breakerless Conversion Kit can drive any ignition coil or combination of ignition coils with a total primary resistance of at least 2.0 Ohm. We recommend ignition coils with 2-3 Ohms for racing applications and ignition coils with 3-4 Ohms for street and highway use. Converting to the Unilite breakerless ignition is as easy as a three wire connection. Replaces the point’s ignition on 1970-1978 Big Twin and 1971-1978 Sportster. Can also be used as a replacement for the OEM electronic ignition on late 1978 and later single cam Big Twin and 1978-1997 Sportster.
