A defective charging regulator can be an expensive affair and destroy some of the bike electrics, and a burning lithium battery under the seat or a leaking lead battery due to overvoltage are not really funny… With this module, the two blinker outputs and/or the LED output can be used as an overvoltage indicator, depending on personal preference. In most cases, the battery voltage rises slowly with a defective charging regulator, so that there is still enough time to switch off the engine and turn off the ignition. This is where the overvoltage indicator helps. As soon as an on-board voltage of 15.1 volts is exceeded for longer than 2 seconds, a warning flasher function is activated via the two blinker outputs and the additional LED output is switched on. In most cases, it is then sufficient to switch off the engine immediately to prevent major damage. An undervoltage detection is also integrated. If the battery voltage falls below 12.1 volts due to a defective charging regulator, when the remaining capacity is between almost 0 and 20% depending on the battery type, the indicators flash briefly every 2 seconds, warning that the engine will stop in most cases in the next 10-30 minutes because the battery will then be flat. Then there is still enough time to stop somewhere. If the battery is almost flat after the winter, the indicator may therefore remain on for 1-2 minutes after starting.
